Installing Windows 8 or 8.1 versions, through USB drive just like a flash drive is great. Seriously, installing with USB sounds cool, isn’t it?  The common issue we faced while installing from flash drive was to insert disc, at some point of time, you have to install from that too. But now, the version Windows 8 will have this additional feature of instantly install from USB drive.

Windows 8 version is stuffed with unique functionalists. This version is also sold on ISO file. The ISO file of Windows 8 must be installing through proper guidelines stated by them. Installing from USB is very much easy, as it is needed to install on tablet and Notebooks, and carrying through USB drive is very much portable.

Now, the version Windows 8.1 will also be available on App store. The update related to this version can easily grab through App store, but this does make your system a bit slow in processing. While, if you are facing this such issue, then you can have refresh to vanilla version of Windows 8 and then update from app store.

You must require few features to get this function work on your system, following are requirements:

  • A USB drive having more than 4 GB of space
  • ISO file of Windows 8 or 8.1
  • And last but not least, proper access to system (like DVD drive or USB port)

How to install Window 8-operating version from USB drive :

- First get Windows ADK version 8.1

-Install ADK by executing adksetup.exe

-You need to select component like:

  • Windows PE
  • Deployment tool
  • And user State Migration tool

-          Then you need to install Deployment Toolkit

-          Then install the exe from admin account

-          After installing, download Microsoft deployment toolkit 2013, then install this feature

-          Then the next step will be , run deployment workbench

-          Then the user have to right-click on Deployment share to select New Deployment Share

-          After executing this steps, you need to make few setting related changes such as:

  •           Under deployment share path: C:\MDTLab
  •           Then add Share name: MDTLab$
  •           Under Deployment description: MDT Lab
  •           Then under options: <default settings>

-          Then the next step will be to import Windows 8.1 OS

-          Then download Windows 8.1 Enterprise X64 ISO file

-          Extract the main folder to C:\Setup\Windows 8.1, X64. Then create

-          Then expand, Deployment Shares node and MDT Lab, and then select operating system.

-          User need to select Import Operating system

-          Then from Import operating System Wizards:

-          Import full set of source files

-          Then from Source directory path: C:\setup\Windows 8.1 X64

-          Destination name: WIN81X64

-           Then on adding OS node, change name to Windows 8.1 Enterprise X64

-          Then you need to import important apps such as:

-          Download MS calculator +, then get it copied to C:\Setup \MSCalcPlus on IT admin.

-          Then check applications, under deployment workbench, MDT Lab

-          Right click on Application folder, then select new application and accordingly select following settings:

-          Application with source file

-          Publisher

-          Application name, version, language, directory, command line and working directory.

-          Then you need to create and configure the task sequence by following the ‘New task Wizard’

-          Then user needs to create ‘Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2013 Media’. While creating you need to create a folder under file Explorer.

-          Then select Media node, through Advanced configuration node under Deployment Workbench.

-          Then explore by right-clicking on media node and change few setting such as:

-          Media path: C:\MDTMedia

-          Profile: default

-          After this open Bootstrap.ini and add Skip BDDWelcome=TES.

-          After this process is completed a ‘Update Media Content file is created’.

-          Then copy the Content folder to the root of USB

-          Then use disk-part to make USB key active.
